Day 1: Darwin to Kakadu National Park

Depart Darwin bright and early as you head east along the Arnhem Highway towards the famous Kakadu National Park! Stop at the Mary River and Corroborree Billabong for a crocodile-spotting cruise through the floodplains. Then arrive in Kakadu, where you can spot more crocs on the East Alligator River at Cahill’s Crossing. Then it's time for lunch and touring the Indigenous rock art at Ubirr. Head to a scenic lookout for the best views of Kakadu, then head to your campsite in Jabiru.

Day 2: Kakadu National Park

Spend today diving deeper into the wonders of Kakadu National Park! Explore Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where you can trek through the forest and swim in the stunning gorge and waterhole. Visit other nearby highlights like Bukbukluk Lookout and Ikoymarrwa (Moline Rockhole). Then it's time to drive further into Australia's Top End towards Nitmiluk National Park, where you will camp near the Katherine River.

Day 3: Nitmiluk National Park and Katherine Gorge

Start your day with a gorgeous two-hour cruise through Katherine Gorge, the crown jewel of Nitmiluk National Park. Next, visit the charming country town of Katherine and enjoy lunch and a swim at Edith Falls. Then you're onto the next destination! Drive through more Outback towns and roads before arriving at Litchfield National Park for the night.

Day 4: Litchfield National Park and return to Darwin

Your final day is for exploring Litchfield National Park. Check out the unique cathedral and magnetic termite mounds, an iconic sight in the Top End. Swim in stunning swimming holes and waterfalls surrounded by nature, with options including Buley Rockhole, Florence Falls, Wangi Falls, and more. Return to Darwin around 4pm after a big day of wilderness adventures.

During your 4-day Top End Adventure, you will be sleeping in permanent eco tents in the heart of the Outback. Tents are made of durable canvas and are set on raised wooden platforms. There are mesh windows and roll-up sides so you can get some fresh air. Inside the tent, there are beds, mattresses, pillows, and a bottom sheet. You should bring your own sleeping bag!

The campsites are powered and have hot showers, toilets, and even a swimming pool! Though the tents are already set up, everyone on the tour is expected to help prepare the meals and tidy up afterwards to ensure an efficient and communal atmosphere.

Important Information

  • Not suitable for children ages 7 years and under.
  • This trip requires a moderate level of fitness as there are a variety of walking trails. Guests should be prepared to hike 5-9kms per day. 
  • Please notify us upon booking if there are any dietary requirements. Food is prepared in advance and special diets cannot be catered for unless you tell us in advance. 
  • Itineraries may change due to weather, local conditions, transport schedules, public holidays, or other factors outside of our control.
  • This trip requires a sleeping bag.
  • There is a strict luggage limit of 10kg. Excess luggage can be stored at Darwin accommodation.
  • Please note that this tour operates in remote regions, and medical facilities are limited and difficult to access. If you have any medical conditions or take any form of medication, please provide full details & nature of the condition to us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What level of fitness is required for this tour?

Moderate fitness is required. Guests will do short hikes and swims (up to 4 km per day), sometimes over rocky or uneven terrain.

Will we have Wifi on the trip?

WiFi will be available across accommodation in urban parts of Australia. Some properties may charge a fee for usage. While camping, most sites will have little to no internet access as they are in remote areas.

Will we have phone service?

You may have phone service in some towns, but service may be spotty across remote regions of the Outback. Tour guides will be equipped with satellite phones for emergencies only.

Please be prepared for up to 3 - 4 days at a time with no internet or phone service, and use this as a chance to disconnect!

Who prepares the meals each day?

Your tour guide will prepare most of the meals on tour, but you will have the opportunity to assist with daily tasks such as setting up camp, helping prepare meals and clearing dishes. These adventure tours have a community spirit where everyone is encouraged to contribute!

Is it safe to bring valuables on this tour?

Please do not bring along unnecessary valuables on this tour, as there is a chance you could lose them during the adventure.

It is recommended that guests photocopy any important documents they need to bring along (such as air tickets, passports, vaccine certificates, etc.), and keep the copies separate from the originals.

Is there a luggage limit?

Guests on this tour may carry a maximum of 10kg, made up of one small soft-sided bag plus a day bag. Please do not bring hard/externally framed suitcases, as they are difficult to store and can damage equipment and other travellers' belongings.

Can my dietary requirements be catered for?

It is essential that any guests with special dietary requirements or allergies report this information to their travel agent when booking. 

Food for the trip is purchased before the tour begins and special requirements cannot be catered for after departing. 

Due to the nature of this tour, the food is basic but plentiful.

The following substitutes can be made upon request:

No pork (ham alternative provided)
No dairy (soy milk provided)
Vegetarian (additional veg and veggie burgers provided)
Vegan (additional fruit and veg provided)
Gluten free (cereal, bread, pasta, snack bars, sweet and savoury biscuits provided)

What are the sleeping conditions like?

You’ll spend three nights in a twin-share permanent eco tent, complete with a bed, mattress, pillow, and bottom sheet. Each campsite also features hot showers, toilets, and a swimming pool. The tents are set on raised wooden platforms and made from durable canvas with mesh windows and roll-up sides.

Can I smoke or drink on the tour?

Smoking is not allowed and drinking is not allowed inside the tour vehicle. Drinking alcohol is permitted at the campsite; however, the guide has the right to limit the amount consumed.
