Depart Darwin bright and early and head out into the Top End wilderness! The first stop is a peaceful cruise on the Corroboree Billabong in the Mary River Wetlands. Marvel at the tranquillity of sunrise as you look for native birdlife and mighty saltwater crocodiles.

Then continue the journey into the magnificent Kakadu National Park. Explore the famous Ubirr Rock Art site and learn about Indigenous history before soaking in the panoramic views over Arnhem Land and the Nardob Floodplains. Set up camp at Mardukul Billabong and settle in for a relaxing night in the heart of Kakadu!

Day 2 - Explore more of Kakadu National Park

  • Total walking time: 3 hours
  • Total driving time: 4 hours

Today the group will dive into more highlights of Kakadu National Park. Start at Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where you can hike along the rocky gorge and swim in the refreshing plunge pool. Next, tackle a rugged 4WD track to the remote and powerful Gunlom Falls in the southern end of the park. The final stop of the day is Ikoymarrwa (Moline Rockhole). Here you can enjoy another fabulous swim in the fresh water at this secluded swimming spot away from the crowds!

After seeing the best of Kakadu, drive towards Litchfield National Park and camp near the border so you're ready to explore the next day. 


Day 3 - Litchfield National Park and head back to Darwin

  • Total walking time: 1.5 hours
  • Total driving time: 2 hours

Your guides have a flexible itinerary for today, so they will select the best swimming locations based on the weather and conditions. But the goal for the day is to make the most of Litchfield National Park's waterfalls and swimming holes. 

First check out the Cathedral and Magnetic Termite Mounds, then go on a waterfall-hopping spree to places such as Wangi Falls, Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole, or Tolmer Falls. Cool off in the fresh water, capture epic photos, and appreciate the beauty of Litchfield National Park. Then it's time to head back to Darwin, where you'll arrive around 5:30pm.

The accommodation for this Outback camping adventure is powered safari campgrounds in the Top End wilderness. Facilities are basic, but you have everything you need for a successful outdoor experience. Campsites are powered and have shared kitchen facilities, showers, and flushing toilets. There are also screened eating areas with power for charging your devices. 

For sleeping, you will have eco tents with beds, linens, and pillows provided. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag! If you don’t already have one, enquire upon booking about renting one for the trip. 

Just remember that this isn’t a 5-star hotel! You’ll need to pitch in with meal prep and cleaning at the campsites to ensure everything runs smoothly. But with the right attitude, this is all part of the adventure! You are camping in some of Australia’s most pristine and ancient wilderness, so cherish every moment!

What is the temperature like in the Top End?

Temperatures in the Top End can be extreme, with intense sun and heat during the day. Please bring appropriate sun protection and remember to drink plenty of water! In the winter months, nighttime temperatures can get cold as well, so just check the weather forecast before your trip and pack accordingly.

What type of clothes should we pack?

Lightweight, active clothing is ideal for the Top End. Bring a mixture of layers, as the temperatures can be hot but long pants and shirts can protect against the sun. If you’re travelling in winter, pack warm clothes for the nights as well. 

How much luggage can we bring on the tour?

You are only allowed to bring a soft bag with a strict limit of 10kg. Any excess luggage must be stored in Darwin. Most accommodations will offer luggage storage!

What is the accommodation like?

You will be staying in powered campsites with basic shared facilities. You may need to pitch in with cleaning and meal prep, but it’s all part of the fun!

A sleeping bag is required, and you can bring your own or organise to hire one for $20. Eco tents with bed, linen and pillow are provided.

Is there a minimum age for this tour?

Yes, the minimum age is 8 years old. 

Can my dietary requirements be catered for?

Yes, but it's super important to inform us of any special diets or allergies upon booking. Food for the trip is purchased in advance and special requirements cannot be catered for after departing. 

We can cater for dairy-free, pork-free, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free. Religious dietary requirements and specifically prepared/sourced produce cannot be catered for. 

Are hotel pick-ups in Darwin offered?

Yes, but you will need to contact us with your preferred pick up point at least one week before departure. Otherwise, the default pick up location is the Cavenagh Motel at 6:50am (12 Cavenagh St).

  • This trip requires a moderate level of fitness as there are a variety of walking trails. Guests should be prepared to hike 5-9kms per day. 
  • Please notify us upon booking if there are any dietary requirements. Food is prepared in advance and special diets cannot be catered for unless you tell us in advance. 
  • Itineraries may change due to weather, local conditions, transport schedules, public holidays, or other factors outside of our control.

Cancellations

All cancellations forfeit 25% of the recommended retail price (RRP) - not the discounted/sale price. No shows or client cancellations made within 60 days of departure forfeit 100% of the total ticket price. 

A refund in the event of cancellation is subject to both our Cancellation Policy and the terms of the supplier.
