Day One: Alice Springs to Kata Tjuta

Your adventure commences in Alice Springs, where you'll get acquainted with your tour guide and your fellow travel companions at the pick-up point. Before you know it, you'll be venturing deep into the Red Centre! A few short hours later, you'll be greeted on the horizon by the impressive Uluru, witnessed in all its splendour and beauty for the first time. After arriving in Kata Tjuta, you'll spend the next few hours navigating the 36 sandstone domes that form the centrepiece of the rugged landscape beyond, before heading towards your first campsite of the trip. Here, you'll bear witness to one of the most surreal sunsets on planet earth; with the sun falling slowly into the vast expanses of the Outback with Uluru standing proudly in the foreground. After a delicious dinner, you'll get to observe the wonders of the universe right from the comfort of your swag, as the entire sky turns into a real-life planetarium, before getting a very well-earned night's sleep. 

Notes: Total driving time today is around 7 hours from Alice Springs. Total walking time is approximately 2 hours.

Outback Powered Campsite


Day Two: Uluru

Day two will start nice and early, as you get a front-row seat to one of the most mesmeric sunrises imaginable, while the sun rises behind the monolithic giant Uluru! After a delicious breakfast, you'll head to the foot of Uluru, where you'll get to see Anangu rock art and be captivated by local creation stories of the area. After this, you'll get to enjoy some free time, where you can go on a self-guided tour around the base of Uluru, to truly gain a true appreciation of its sheer size and beauty! You'll also get a chance to visit the Uluru Culture Centre, where you can purchase handcrafted art and souvenirs made by local First Nation Peoples of the Western and Central Deserts. From here, you'll then travel to the campsite near Kings Canyon, before having dinner and once again be treated to another spectacular outback sunset! 

Notes: Total driving time today is around 3.5 hours. Total walking time is approximately 2.5 hours (or up to 3.5 hours if you do the full 10km base walk around Uluru).


Day Three: Kings Canyon Rim Walk

After another spectacular Red Centre sunrise, you'll spend a few hours exploring the gems of Watarrka National Park- including its main attraction Kings Canyon. The canyon is home to hidden rock pools, deep gullies and porous sandstone, as well as over 600 species of native plants and animals! Famous locations in Kings Canyon include the Lost City, the Amphitheatre, the Garden of Eden and the North and South Walls of the canyon. After lunch, you'll head back towards Yulara to set up camp for the night! On this evening, there is the chance to enjoy some optional activities such as a Sunset Camel Cruise, the Field of Lights, Sound of Silence or the Wintjiri Wiru Drone Display! Alternatively, you're presented with the perfect opportunity to experience the Uluru sunset from a different perspective. It's completely up to you! 

Notes: Total driving time today is around 3 hours. Total walking time is approximately 3.5 hours (For the Kings Canyon Rim Walk it is a requirement that you have a minimum of three litres of water with you. Please consider bringing your own refillable water bottles.)


Day Four: Departure Day

Following a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast, you'll begin your short 15-minute journey to the Desert Gardens Hotel in Yulara, where you'll bid farewell to your guide and new friends! From here, it's only a short drive (or regular free shuttle) to Yulara airport!

What time does the tour start and end?

This tour has two departure location options.

Alice Springs to Yulura

The AS - YUL tour departs from Alice Springs at 6:00 AM and ends in Yulura. We recommend you fly into Alice Springs Airport and out of Yulura Airport for ease.

A Yulara to Yulara version of this tour is also available

Where do we meet for the tour and is hotel pickup available?

Alice Springs

Meet your guide at the pickup point at Stay at Alice Springs Hotel (formerly Aurora Alice Springs) at 6 am. If you're staying elsewhere in Alice Springs, please call the reservations team on the number above to arrange an alternative pickup.

Where does the tour finish?

Your tour will finish at Desert Gardens Hotel or Ayers Rock Airport in Yulara at around 9am.

How much luggage can we bring?

15kg of luggage is allowed in soft bag plus a carry on day pack. No hard cases please.

What meals are included?

3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 3 dinners are included on your tour.

What is the accommodation like?

You'll be camping in swags at an Outback campsite with shared facilities. 

Do we need sleeping bags?

Sleeping bags are provided so you don't need to bring your own. 

What clothes should we wear/bring?

Bring comfortable clothes with lots of layers to protect against the sun and the cold desert temperatures at night and in the early morning.

  • A round-trip version of this tour that begins and ends in Yulara is also available.

  • Any dietary requirements must be advised at the time of booking, in order to order to accommodate this before the tour commences. 
  • Please provide details of any medical conditions at the time of booking. There is very limited to access to medical treatment in the outback.

All cancellations forfeit 25% of the recommended retail price (RRP) - not the discounted/sale price. No shows or client cancellations made within 60 days of departure forfeit 100% of the total ticket price.
